2023 COMPETITION
2023 saw the first edition of the Race 2 Space National Propulsion Competition.
7 rocket engines were hot fired for the first time including four hybrids, an aerospike, and ablative, water and regeneratively cooled bipropellant engines. At the time, the team believed that this was a new world record for most hybrid/liquid engines tested for the first time on one site in one week!
On the final day of the competition was the Race 2 Space Symposium with over 100 guests from across the space sector coming together to discuss space and propulsion skills. Everyone was impressed with what the students had achieved.
“It's so rewarding seeing the excitement that students experience getting their engine to work, and great to know that without this event many of the engines would only exist on whiteboards or be sat in university workshops unable to be tested.”
